coming. you may have heard. winter weather advisory is in effect today at 6:00 p.m.-noon wednesday. three-6 in. of snow just to the south we have the possibility for more than 6 in. of snow. all that snow gets here in time for this afternoon. it won't arrive until rush-hour. the advisory for all the counties in purple. also a winter storm warning is in effect for some of these counties. right now is 15 at the lakefront. 12 in midway. we have cloud cover across a region and also dry conditions will keep us with temperatures in the teens. looking to the southwest, this is what's coming. the storm that will tap into the gulf of mexico and it will bring about this much snow. about 5 in. for

chicago. down to the south could have 6 in.. same deal for lake county and the port county. today, high temperature of 26. you may be able to get home and stay dry but by bedtime that still will be here. it will end early wednesday. wednesday's high is 24. thursday is 11. >> of the things are looking good. we have some work on the eisenhower from racine to morgan. those are full lane closures until 5:00. plan that into your commute this morning. but other than that you should be in good shape. another update in a few minutes. >>a woman is charged with d-u-i after a crash injured eight people on the city's south side. prosecutors say robin sewell was drunk when she ran a red light and crashed into a car with seven people inside. it happened at 43-rd and lasalle early yesterday morning. a woman and two men are ina man,

a woman, and three children are in fair to serious condition. sewell is also charged with driving without a license and not having insurance. a convicted murderer who broke out of a prison in michigan, is back in custody, after his capture in northern indiana. >> michael elliot was serving time for killing four people in 1993, when he escaped sunday from the ionia correctional center. a woman says he carjacked her and forced her to drive to indiana. they stopped for gas in middlebury. she called 9-1-1 from the gas station restroom. >> is taking longer than i thought. >> is it him? >> he is knocking on the bathroom door. >> every day you have someone's life in your hand one way or another. but this one takes the cake. >> the kidnapper fled the gas station alone... ditched the woman's stolen jeep... then stole another car. when a sheriff's deputy spotted that car, police chased elliot, and caught him. police and relatives say they

robbins would shoot and kill his wife and two teenaged children. eastpolice say michael worsham began the shooting rampage late sunday night, first killing his 17-year-old son, steven roe, then ollie, out of bed and shot her. worsham and fought for his gun. but worsham told him to run out of the house. police say worsham then shot his daughter, 15-year-old, trisdion in the back , as she tried to run out of the house. >> i don't know what happened or what went wrong. >> i guess there's no other word to say other than her foot. i'm a father. i cannot imagine what would bring someone to such a dark place where they would leave the have to take the lives of their entire family. >>police say worsham also fired shots at witnesses who saw the shooting from the street. they were not injured. worsham's body was found inside the home ... police say he suffered a heart attack. his 14-year-old son and his five-year-old nephew survived. police say worsham had no criminal history and worked as a security guard at thornton high

school. today's the day we get our first look into the way police handled a deadly fight involving former mayor daley's nephew. richard vanecko pled guilty friday to involuntary manslaughter, for throwing the punch that ultimately killed david koschman outside a tavern on division street in 2004. vanecko will serve two months in prison. a special prosecutor examined a claim that police covered up the facts to protect the mayor's relative. the findings will be made public today. the employee of the state treasurer's office who made misconduct allegations against illinois treasurer dan rutherford has resigned from his to be named, accused rutherford of forcing him to do politicalrutherford is running for governor. he denied the accusation during a meeting with the tribune editorial board yesterday. the accuser's lawyer spoke on w- l-s radio, saying a formal complaint may be filed later this week. >> i cannot comment on the claims. right now we're focused

on the first claimed. but don't want to box myself in, but we may be adding more claims. don't speculate. and not saying it's when you mention. it could be other things. we're just not ready to go there yet. >>svenson did some legal work for republican opponent bruce rauner last year. rutherford says rauner is behind the claim going public, which rauner and svenson deny. governor quinn is required to unveil a new state budget this month. but he wants to wait until after next month's primary election. that's because the budget would likely require quinn to say whether he plans to extend the state's temporary income tax the wrong decision could cost him the primary. critics, both republican and democrat, say quinn's delaying tactic smacks of pure politics. his office says he just needs more time to put together a *five -year spending plan. the city of chicago is about to learn the price of its recent credit downgrade. city aldermen agreed to borrow

almost two billion dollars for capital improvement projects, upgrades to midway airport, lawsuit settlements and debt payments. typically, a lower bond rating means higher borrowing costs. this one may cost taxpayers an extra 20 million dollars a year. chicago's bond rating tumbled three notches last july... the worst one-time drop in city history. an off duty chicago police officer fatally shot a man after he walked in on the middle of a robbery inside a walgreens on the city's northwest side. it happened yesterday in the 52-hundred block of north milwaukee 17 at his arrest police beat him after the discovered he was already in police custody at a time and murders. >> 20 years of my life was taken. there's no way i'll get back. i do want the people who are responsible for that to pay for it. to what extent, i don't know. i will have to find out exactly.

>> lawyers say police coerced eight young men into confessing and taking part in the killings. he served time until police. two others have the charges brought out and another was saved. >>a crowd gathered to try and keep mount assisi academy from closing. hissthis candlelight vigil was held in front of the school, in south-west suburban lemont last night. last week, the all girls school announced it was closing due to declining enrollment. this gathering was organized to keep it running, but the school says any money raised would only be a short term fix. mount assisi has been open for 63-years. classes resume today at hinsdale middle school. the entire school was shut down last month for a good scrubbing, after a water pipe rupture revealed mold in the walls. a lot of flooring and drywall was replaced... and some asbestos was removed. now, the school has been ruled safe for students again. 100-thousand potholes have been patched in chicago this year, and more are coming. the city says it has crews working every day to fix the holes in the streets. they keep popping up as we keep

getting more snow and ice. that's keeping road crews busy, but it also means big business at auto shops. more potholes increase your odds of popping a tire. sometimes the rim gets so damaged, that it has to be tossed for scrap. >> we normally do five we did 50. >> it's usually because of salt. >>the city says it patched 625- thousand potholes last year. we're expecting more snow this week, so you can expect more holes in the future. this winter gave some people in the south their first taste of snow, and the same goes for their pets. this is sophie the cat's first experience with snow. sophie and her family live in alabama. you can see she's pretty cautious, then curious, and then obsessed with the inch of snow that's covering the yard. her owners set up a facebook page to capture future adventures. >> i love a good the cat video. >> demetrius should appreciate this. >> has your cat been in the snow? >> my cat is at the zoo. i have

pool of a norwegian cruise ship. the ship was off the coast of north carolina, when two children were found in the pool yesterday afternoon. medical staff were able to save a six year old child, but they could not save the other one. the survivor was airlifted to a hospital with his grandmother. there's no word on whether they were related to the other

victim. four people were killed when a small private jet crashed in nashville, tennessee last night. the plane slammed into the ground and exploded into flames just yards from a y-m-c-a. everyone on board was killed. no one else was injured. investigators say the plane had tried to land at a small airport just ten miles away and it was making a second attempt when it went down. the plane took off from kansas and all four victims are from one family. the n-t-s-b is now investigating the crash. joan mondale, the wife of former vice president walter mondale, has passed away. mondale was surrounded by her husband and two sons during her final hours yesterday. the women who was known as "saint joan of art" for her passion for the arts was 83 years old. the former vice president released a statement "we are grateful for the expressions of love and support we have received. joan was greatly loved by many. we will miss her dearly." a funeral service will be held saturday. the debate over debt ceilings will resurface in washington. the treasury needs congress to

>> we have these extraordinary measures to finance the government. this time it will only give us a brief span of time before we run out. >>the budget deal that ended the government shutdown in october suspended the debt limit through friday. treasury secretary jack lew says the measures used to pay bills now will run out by the end of the month. house republicans are demanding spending cuts before they agree to raise the debt ceiling again. remember the guy who jumped to earth from a high-altitude balloon last year? well, now, we can show you how the breathtaking leap look, from his own personal jumper- cam. felix baumgartner wore the camera as he fell 128 thousand feet, at more than 800- miles per hour. that's faster than the speed of sound. the entire jump lasted about five minutes, and ended successfully and safely. baumgartner's next mission won't be quite as daring. he'll help with helicopter rescues and firefighting missions.

monday after a weak manufacturing report worried investors. the dow plunged 326 points. the nasdaq fell 106. and the s-and-p dropped 40

points. the federal reserve has a new chief. janet yellen.. was sworn in monday as the first woman to head the u-s federal reserve. yesterday, she took her oath of office in d-c. yellen has been a member of the fed board of governors since 19-94. she's now in charge of directing economic policy for the nation's central bank. yellen said she wants to be called "fed chair" not "chairwoman". southwest airlines will offer more flights out of dallas, love-field by the end of the year southwest will add numerous nonstop flights from its base in dallas, after the flight restriction expires from love field this october. in recent months, southwest won takeoff and landing rights at reagan national airport and laguardia. with the repeal in dallas, southwest plans to add direct flights from love field to 41 more states. direct flights from dallas to midway airport will begin october 13th. seven dominick's locations. whole foods will announce more information february 12th, when first quarter earnings areas of now, we know the locations are in chicago and the suburbs. west loop, streeterville, lincoln park, edgewater willowbrook, evanston and elmhurst. with the dominick's

personal issues that have popped up during the campaign including the most recent accusation by the state treasurer that rival is behind a misconduct allegation being made by treasury employee. according to the attorney for that employee they ask for three $7,000 to keep quiet about the allegations. he claims that attorney is working for the opponent. but they said it was on the lease for a campaign space for which he saved $3,500. >> i believe he is behind it. >> it is ridiculous. this is politics. last week the attacked with allegations i know nothing about and have nothing to do with. >> afterwards, the other two republican candidates called this matter a distraction for the campaign. brady did admit it has been good for his campaign.

looking for more murder motive. a man shot his stepson, his daughter and his wife. there were all shot inside their home. the 14 year-old son survived after running from the house. the suspect found dead at the scene investigators say he suffered a heart attack. >> an undercover officer said it was his idea to use the molotov cocktails at the nato meeting. the defense has been tried to show how the police encouraged the acts that led to terrorism charges. closing arguments begin tomorrow. >> and classes resume today when a school was shut down for a good scrubbing after a water pipe ruptured revealing mold in the walls. flooring and a dry wall needed to be replaced and asbestos was removed. now the school is safe for students once again. >>a former teacher accused in a

youtube video of child sex abuse has now been arrested. she resigned, two weeks ago, from her job as a school administrator in southern california. >> she didn't think the video would be viral so quickly. >> you should be so ashamed and disgusted. >> i am. >> sure corridors of confronting a former teacher about the sexual abuse she says she suffered. monday night shares that these are arrested the teacher who now faces 16 felony charges. five counts of aggravated sexual assault on a child, 11 counts of lewd acts on a child. most recently an administrator at a high school and riverside, california. the school that she says was in the video asking to speak to her. >> i was 12 years old when i met you. do you realize you brainwashed me and manipulated me and that what you did was wrong? >> yes, i regret it.

>> she resigned january 17th, not long after the video was put up one youtube. another person claiming to be a victim has filed a complaint accusing the former school district of negligence. jamie says the abuse happened off and on for six years starting when she was 12. as an adult she said she considered going to the police but she saw that the statute of limitations had run out. in a statement released the attorney says it's his duty to see justice prevail in the midst of a wildfire. fortunately the justice system requires more than just a video to determine the facts of the case. >>chris christie says he'll cooperate with a government subpoena into the so-called bridge scandal... even if two former staffers won't. the new jersey governor fired aide bridget kelly, for allegedly closing several lanes of the bridge from manhattan to fort lee, new jersey. >> she didn't tell me the truth and i fired her. what i said to

all these people who have lawyers now is that i hope they would share information with us. i also understand people have rights and it will exercise those rights as they see fit and they are advised to do. >>christie says he'll hand over any records state and federal investigators want. the governor says some of his underlings acted without his knowledge, to close the bridge, in an act of political retribution against the mayor of fort lee. four major tech companies are revealing the details of the government's secret requests for data on internet users. the national security agency asked for information on tens of thousands of users of yahoo, microsoft, google and facebook. and leaked information reveals, the n-s-a may also have intercepted user information *without the companies' knowledge. a microsoft attorney says the government still hasn't promised to stop the illegal hacking. anyone having problems with the insurance they received through "health care dot gov" is facing a dead end when it comes to fixing them. the washington post reports that 22-thousand people filed appeals to fix mistakes in their coverage. but the computer program that's

bags of heroine, syringes and prescription drugs in philip seymour hoffman's manhattan apartment. the 46 year-old oscar winner was found dead of an apparent drug overdose on sunday. law enforcement found hoffman on his bathroom floor with a syringe in his arm. the actor had admitted to struggles with addiction over the years and had entered rehab last year, after a long stretch of sobriety. no further information will be released until an autopsy is performed. chris brown will stay in rehab a few more weeks despite a prosecutor's request that he be
